Square Enix will release the original trilogy of Dragon Quest games for Wii in Japan, it said on Wednesday. Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Commemoration: Famicom Super Famicom Dragon Quest IIIIII, to be released this September, will collect the first three games of the series that were produced for Nintendos 8-bit systems, plus the remakes of the games that were later released on the 16-bit console. The special package, similar to Nintendos own Super Mario All-Stars compilation, will also include as-yet-unannounced physical bonus items along with the game disc. The Mario set featured a history pamphlet and a soundtrack CD. While the Nintendo Entertainment System had English versions of the first three Dragon Quest games, the Super Famicom remakes were never translated. Dragon Quest Collection Wii Full Collection OutsideSo it would be quite a job much more so than simply dumping the ROMs onto a Wii disc, as is the case here to bring this full collection outside of Japan. Its not impossible, but the potential returns are probably not high enough to justify it. Then again, Nintendo has committed to making a big push to make Dragon Quest popular in the U.S. Europe. So its difficult to say with certainty. If I were Nintendo, Id probably pass on this collection but sell the 8-bit Dragon Quest games as individual downloadable titles outside Japan.
